Oct. 13-19: Re-airing of ‘A Voice for the Animals’ Featuring Panthera CEO Dr. Alan Rabinowitz

Panthera

Now through Wednesday, October 19th, Panthera CEO Dr. Alan Rabinowitz’s interview on American Public Radio’s On Being program (formerly the Speaking of Faith program) will re-air across the country on over 240 public radio stations. Download the interview podcast or stream it to hear Dr. Rabinowitz describe how his knowledge as a scientist, his adventures as an explorer, and his life as a stutterer have forged a very particular connection with animals, while also bringing him around to "the human side of things." Be sure to visit On Being’s site to watch ‘The Last Pure Pygmy and His Gift’ video (or watch this below), which documents Dr. Rabinowitz’s encounters with the Taron people - a "pure-blood" race of Mongoloid pygmies on the verge of self-imposed extinction - living in the remote border region between Myanmar (Burma) and Tibet. In particular, Dr. Rabinowitz describes his experience with one family member, Dawi, who saw the "deep, deep hole" existing within both men — and the reward of this friendship on his own life.

Also watch the ‘Pictorial Corridor of Big Cats and Rabinowitz’ to see photos of wild cats and images of Dr. Rabinowitz working in the field to conserve these magnificent species.

This interview was originally recorded last summer. During the re-airing period, the interview can also be found on the On Being home page.

More on On Being

The weekly program, On Being, is an always evolving conversation about the big questions at the center of human life, from the boldest new science of the human brain to the most ancient traditions of the human spirit. The program began as an occasional series on Minnesota Public Radio in 1999, then became a monthly national program in September 2001, and launched as a weekly program in the summer of 2003. Hosted and produced by Krista Tippett.
