Eastern Himalayan Corridor

The project will focus on the The Indo-Bhutan Tiger Conservation Landscape (IBMTCL) in the eastern Himalayas and more specifically on trans-boundary protected areas of India and Bhutan. The area lies at the juncture between the Indo-Malayan and the Indo-Gangetic bio-geographical pathways and forms an important connecting link between the Indian tiger reserves of Buxa, Nameri and Pakke, and the Hukaung Valley Tiger Reserve in Myanmar. The project team will conduct landscape-wide surveys of tigers and anthropogenic threats and estimate the number of tigers in the core protected areas distributed throughout the landscape. The project is still in the early stages of development but initial field work will begin in early 2011.
