Byron Weckworth, PhD

Regional Coordinator, Snow Leopard Program
Byron Weckworth

Dr. Byron Weckworth serves as the regional biologist for Panthera’s Snow Leopard Program and is currently based in Beijing, China. Byron’s passion for large mammal conservation began at childhood and led him through his undergraduate degree at the University of Montana, a Master’s of Science at Idaho State University and the recent completion of his Ph.D. at the University of Calgary. His research experience has involved fieldwork across a variety of ecosystems, on an equally varied number of species, including wolves, black bears, caribou and moose, to address a wide spectrum of ecological and evolutionary questions. Byron comes to Panthera with the goal of helping to produce rigorous scientific research and to work collaboratively to make such research accessible and applicable to the people and partner organizations that have the influence to inform the conservation of wild cats.
