Wild cats and other animals can’t fight back against the poachers who are decimating their numbers – but we can.

Own The Night
Poachers are waging a war against wildlife. Picking up automatic weapons and chainsaws and laying down snares and poison, nefarious gangs of well-funded poachers are targeting big cats for their skins, claws, teeth and other body parts that are sold through the illegal wildlife market.
Under the cover of darkness, poachers’ illegal kills go unseen and unpunished. Even when they aren’t the target, and snares are laid by local people to catch herbivores for food, big cats are often maimed or killed by these traps, or starved of suitable prey.
Some of the greatest losses of big cats and other wildlife occur at night… and as a result of poaching, many of these species are now in catastrophic decline. But we are fighting back.
Panthera has launched the ‘Own The Night’ campaign to get the resources needed to stop poachers from winning the war against wildlife during the darkest hours of the night.
Your contribution to this campaign can help Panthera outfit and train wildlife rangers and law enforcement patrols around the globe to fight poaching and other key threats facing wild cats.
Thanks to the generosity of Kozyak Tropin Throckmorton, Luxury Living Group, and additional donors listed below, Panthera is launching a $75,000 Challenge Fund. Our goal is to double this amount and raise a total of $150,000 for our most critical efforts to save the world’s most iconic species.
Donate to help Panthera raise $150,000 to ‘Own The Night’ and protect the world’s wild cats from poachers and other threats.

Some of the greatest losses of big cats and other wildlife are made when poachers are obscured at night. With your support, Panthera is empowering park rangers and other wild cat protectors to Own The Night, taking down poachers and illegal hunters and disabling their merciless traps.
Look out for our newsletter and connect with us on social media to stay involved and help save our planet’s remaining wild spaces.
Thank you once again for your passion and commitment to wild cat conservation!
Big cats are targeted for their beautiful skins, claws, teeth, and other body parts that fetch high prices on the illegal wildlife market.
Revered by people for thousands of years for their beauty and power, our world’s big cats – the apex predators holding ecosystems around the globe in place – are now being reduced to commodities. Their body parts are used in traditional Asian medicines, such as tiger bone wine, to treat illnesses ranging from arthritis to epilepsy. The greatest demand for these medicines originates in China.
Their skins and other parts are also used for décor, indicating status and wealth, particularly across Asia.
Wildlife poaching is often linked to other insidious crimes, including human and drug trafficking. Poaching of wild cats and other wildlife is part of a much larger illegal network. By combating the trade in wild animals, our efforts go far beyond.

Our Strategy to Own The Night
Panthera combines the latest in wildlife conservation science, cutting-edge technology, and law enforcement to intervene at multiple points of the wild cat contraband supply chain – targeting the perpetrators of poaching and illegal hunting, while also reducing demand for big cat parts.
Our methods are as varied as the cats and other wildlife that we protect:
Equipping park rangers with leading technology, including night-vision goggles and Panthera’s PoacherCam, which alerts law enforcement teams in real time of illegal human entry to protected areas;
Providing novel resources such as border patrol dogs trained to sniff out wildlife contraband;
Training partners on the ground in the latest law enforcement and intelligence-gathering techniques, as well as methods to safely disable wildlife traps and remove snares; and
Measuring results and progress to understand what interventions are most effective, and disseminating lessons learned across organizations, geographies, and species.
